It’s a Beautiful Day

Thumper attended his or her second in utero concert last night — U2 at the St. Pete Times Forum. The kid alternately thumped and bumped to the beat and got pretty quiet in there. What really cracked me up was the realization that I actually bought these tickets before Thumper was even a glimmer in mommy and daddy’s eye — by about 3 weeks, but still. Eight months later, here I was, getting lots of “is she going to pop?!?!?” looks from other concert goers.

I also have to be the only person in that entire arena who actually managed to briefly fall asleep during one of the most rocking-est concerts I have ever attended. Yes, you heard me. In my defense, it was a long day — a 7:30 am breakfast appointment had me leaving the house before 7, I had an out-of-office appointment at lunch, then run to meet Mike and Alex after work to help Alex get situated at Grandma and Grandpa’s house for the evening before heading back downtown for the concert. And, it was a slow song, from the new album, that I didn’t really know as well as the others. But still, how embarassing! I rallied and really enjoyed the whole thing, even if I couldn’t stand the whole time as the people in front of me did. Great show. One we will be telling Thumper about many years from now when he or she listens to mom and dad’s vintage U2 CDs (assuming there are still CD players at that point…).
