It’s a misnomer…

Not sure why they call the test where they check an in-utero baby’s heart rate and movement and reactivity a “non-stress test” — such tests really do a good job of stressing mommy out. Had the position check this morning, and Thumper is breech after all — I now suspect that he or she had never turned around to begin with, and they were wrong when they told me that a few weeks ago. Which sucks, because I had stopped doing things to try to get the baby to turn thinking it had. Water under the bridge, now.

The long and the short of it is that the baby is fine — scored a 10 out of 10 (already acing tests!) on the biophysical profile test, though it took a bit longer than any of us would have liked to get that result– started out at the doctor’s office at 8 am, then to the midwives, then to the hospital, and didn’t get home until almost 4 pm. The waiting part was pretty stressful, though I am grateful for the end result. They have decided that the baby is predicted to be too big to try to turn him or her using the external version technique (the possibility of which, ironically, was the only reason I decided to consent to all the testing in the first place!) so it is up to me alone to get this baby to turn.

Thus, I am going to get off the computer and go lay upside down on the ironing board with hot and cold packs in various places for a while (yes, you read that right — check out www.spinngingbabies.com and you’ll see some of the other crazy things I am trying). More head down vibes would be lovely, please.

    HANG IN THERE, Dineen!!!

I am *so* upset for you that they would not attempt ECV due to a fetal weight estimate that is probably not accurate. It may be a CYA thing, but then again, I’m not a doctor, either.

All I can say is, I am praying for you, and get thee to a chiropractor. I read on another website that the “webster technique” works. Can’t imagine it can hurt, perhaps check with your doula?

    Good Luck!! NO WORRIES!
