Mature and Alert

Nate had his two week appointment today, and it went very well. He weighed in at 9 pounds, 4 ounces, so not quite backup to his birth weight, but a good amount of gaining since he left the hospital. Momma’s milk is doing its job. He has no more jaundice, and was a total trooper through getting blood drawn and getting his first shots. He is still 22 inches long, and his head was 15 and a quarter inches around.

The doctor commented that Nate is very alert and active for his age, and he attributed that to his being a mature baby — one that came after his due date. He said, quote, “even one week can make a very big difference in how alert they are at first.” I wanted to throw my arms around the man and plant a big kiss on his cheeks for saying that — after all of the fighting I did to let Nate choose his own birthday even when it was pretty clear that I would have to have a cesarean section because he was breech, I was so, so happy to hear that this doctor thought it had paid off. I seriously had tears in my eyes. My mature, alert little man!

He goes back for his next check up at two months….
