“I feed baby Nate!”
Posted by Dineen on January 27th, 2006 filed in Alex, NateIt has been so fascinating to see how Alex has processed the notion of me breastfeeding Nate. He certainly remembers drinking milk from Mommy himself, as he only stopped doing so a few months ago. He has asked me a couple of times for milk, and I just gently say that Mommy Milk is for babies and big boys drink milk from a cup. Then I give him milk in a cup. That has managed to hold him off so far.
A few days ago, he threw a fit about wanting some of my pumped breast milk, so I gave him a taste. His idea of helping me with the feeding process — and it’s logical, if a bit weird — is to try to reach in and squeeze my breast (as he has seen me do many a time) to try to get more milk to come out for Baby Nate. I keep explaining to him that Mommy doesn’t need him to help in that way, and gently redirecting him to other behaviors.
This morning was probably the funniest, though. Alex was sitting on the potty, naked, and suddenly discovered his own nipples. He kept pointing to them, one on each side, and saying “Alex nipples, Alex nipples.” Then he said to me, in all seriousness, hands on nipples, “Alex feed Baby Nate.” I had to supress my laughter as I explained that only mommies’ nipples make milk for babies.
