You can’t do this!
Posted by Dineen on March 4th, 2006 filed in AlexIn seventh grade biology class, one of the ways they taught us genetics was to have us look at the trait of tongue-rolling. Tongue rolling was explained to be dominant, so if you could do it, at least one of your parents had to have the ability to do it as well. Both of my parents can, but I got the recessive genes, and I can’t. (Turns out this is actually a gross oversimplification, as I discovered as I Googled the issue to write this entry — another childhood memory crushed for me!).
Well, not too long ago, I noticed Alex rolling his tongue. I was actually jealous! I had a conversation with him about the fact that I can’t do that, and he likes to laugh at me trying and failing (my tongue just kind of curves up a little and flops around when I attempt it).
So this has become Daddy and Alex’s big bonding experience. At lunch today, Alex stuck his tongue out at me and said “you can’t do this!” Then Mike joined in on the taunting.
Boys.
