Posted by Dineen on March 19th, 2006 filed in Family FunWe treated this weekend like an episode of Trading Spaces except we worked on our own house and we weren’t exactly working uninterrupted with a toddler and an infant in tow. Nate rode in the carrier for a lot of the time, helping me tape, put down the drop cloths, vaccum, and as many jobs I could manage with him on my person. Alex did a lot of helping, too, and was especially excited to carry the paint cans into the room and then, joy of joys, actually use the roller and paint two of the walls all by himself! With strategic use of naps and sending one parent off to the store with one or more children, coupled with working like maniacs after bedtime and eating out two meals a day, we managed to get our master bedroom and bathroom about 90% complete. The walls are now painted a warm gold, with a few accent walls in “cranberry zing.” We have hung mirrors and sconces and artwork, including several artistic photos from our honeymoon. And did I mention Alex painted? He also watched a bit more TV than I usually like, but at least it is done. Lots of pictures are here.

Dineen –
What a coincidence! Niels and I are painting our dining room what looks like the *exact* same gold! It was an awful light pink before, and now the room has character and warmth. My brain isn’t used to it yet, but I think it’s growing on me.
Oh, and I hear you about trying to get it all done around kids’ naptimes. Progress is SLOOOOOWWWWWW because Niels hasn’t been able to help much, either. *sigh* But we’re getting there. A second coat, some new molding, and painting a built-in china closet (yikes VERY tedious), and I’m done.
