Seminoles Song

On the way home last night, Alex was pretty wired and kept saying “I want _____ song.” I couldn’t understand the fill-in-the-blank at first — sometimes song? And after several rounds of “I am sorry, honey, I don’t understand what you are asking for, can you try using a different word to help mommy understand?” he added a chop and started humming I finally realized he was asking for the Seminoles song. That is, he wanted us to sing the war chant and chop with him. Which we did, with relish. He kept saying he wanted to go to a football game, and we had to explain that he was going to have to wait a few months for football season to start (and tonight, Mike had to explain that the NFL draft was the reason there were pictures of football in the paper even though it isn’t football season yet). I then offered, would you like a different Seminoles song? and in response to the resounding “yes!” that offer elicited we started singing the chant at the end of the fight song: “F-L-O-R-I-D-A/S-T-A-T-E/Florida State, Florida State, Florida State/Whoooo!” with accompanying hand motions on the whoooo. Doing that over and over again got him actually spelling out the entirety of Florida State by the time we pulled into the driveway!
