Uncle Paul

Friday night as I was putting Alex to bed, I mentioned to him that the next day, we would be going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, and Aunt Katie and her boyfriend, Uncle Paul would be there. It took him a few tries to process, but finally he said. “Yay! We see Grandpa and Grandpa and Aunt Katie. And Uncle Paul. Uncle Paul likes me. I like Uncle Paul!” I was blown away at the way he singled out Paul, though frankly, he was right on both counts.

Saturday, we indeed went to their house as promised, and Alex had a great time with Aunt Katie and Uncle Paul. As soon as Uncle Paul arrived, Alex went right to him and pressed him into service reading a book. Uncle Paul jumped right in and did it. At some point, Alex again proclaimed “I like Uncle Paul!”

Today, we got the news we suspected might be coming — Uncle Paul asked Aunt Katie to marry him this weekend, and she agreed.

As you might have guessed, Alex approves. So do the rest of us. Welcome to the family, Uncle Paul!
