Not a First

Mike and Dineen, you have been married for 6 years, what are you going to do!?!?

“We’re going to Disney World!”

Epcot Center, to be exact. We had a lovely day talking with turtles, riding on boats, eating ice cream on a bench, making music with robots, shining a light on fire hazzards in the home, and just walking around and taking it all in. Alex was so excited he hopped into our bed in the morning saying “We’re going to Disney World today!” over and over.

Almost as exciting was the fact that we were going to see “our friends, Roman and Rhett!” Roman and Rhett and their parents met us there at 4:30 so that the anniversary celebrants could enjoy an adult dinner in Morocco (or Disney’s approximation thereof). We had a lovely meal, and lovely conversation that even steered mostly clear of mentioning the kids, while the aforesaid kids ran around at a playground installed for the annual Flower Show, after earning personalized Home Depot aprons while planting a tomato plant seedling. (well, except Nate. He just snuggled with Jill, but they gave him an apron to grow into anyway).

After dinner, we hung out a little longer and even stayed for the fireworks. At some point, someone looked at me and cooed (with reference to Nate in his sling) “Awwww, is this his first trip to Disney World???” I felt a bit decadent saying no, actually, it was his second. I fear that in a sense it will be less special to our kids, since they get to go fairly frequently.

But then I watched Alex and Roman and Rhett boogie down while waiting for the fireworks, and the wonder in their eyes. Nah, it’s too much fun!
