Taking After Mommy
Posted by Dineen on July 4th, 2006 filed in Milestones, NateNate is sick again. I was so pleased to have dodged a bullet with Alex in that he was pretty much never sick as a baby and still isn’t all that sickly (knock vigorously on wood!) and when he does get sick, he is a prince about taking meds.
But poor Nate — between being in a day care (rather than in home care like Alex was) and being my child through and through, he has his first ear infection and his second bout of fever and is just miserable. He started showing signs of fever on Friday, but seemed to respond well to medication, so I didn’t worry too much over the weekend. But by Sunday night, I realized a trip to the peditrician was in order as it wasn’t getting better. Yesterday morning we went in and got the diagnosis. Nate spent the afternoon at my office with me, and I am very glad today is a holiday so that we don’t have to worry about taking another unscheduled day off of work.
We finally hit the sweet spot of alternating tylenol and motrin to keep the fever at bay, but when it wears off (like when he sleeps longer than 3 hours) he is a whining, crying, miserable mess for a good forty five minutes or so until the meds kick in again. And the antibiotics for the ear infection are not his favorite at all — it is really hard to get him to swallow them. And did I mention the nasal aspirator? Nate is now conditioned to scream bloody murder at the very sight of it; nevermind holding him down long enough to get the darn thing into his nose. But it’s very necessary, as he is a total snot factory, which makes it hard for him to nurse. I have just ditched solid foods entirely until this passes.
As I said, though — we have hit the sweet spot on the meds, hopefully. And he is now three doses into the antibiotics. SO I am very much hoping that by our follow up pediatrician visit tomorrow, he will be OK.
