Sneaky

Well, Alex hasn’t quite woken up dry since he insisted on no more diapers to bed, but he is really trying mightily. On Sunday morning, he woke up soaked, though he was dry when I checked in on him at around 4. On Monday Morning, he woke up soaked again, and again had been dry when I peeked in at around 4 am. Yesterday he was upset by the fact that he was wet when he woke up — I walked into his room to wake him and he was standing there just stricken, saying “I’m all wet.” He was so, so sad about it. Mike handled cleaning him up and getting him dressd, and was wonderfully matter of fact and supportive.

Last night as we were doing our bed time routine he was chattering away about how Mommy will wash his sheets if he goes pee pee and I told him yes, Mommy will wash your sheets, but it is much better to stay dry so your pajamas don’t get all wet and icky. That’s right, Mommy! he told me. I made sure we did one more trip to the potty after stories, which I think helped too (and needs to become a new part of our routine!).

At around 5 this morning, the baby alarm went off and I got up to check on Alex and he was gone! He wasn’t in his room, though the bed was dry. I looked everywhere, even Nate’s room, and there was no sign of him. I was about to wake up Mike in a panic when I got back into my room and saw him in my bed. He saw me join him and said “I bad.” I quickly assured him that he wasn’t bad, but that he probably needed to go to the potty. Which we did. His PJs were a little damp, like he started to pee and stopped himself, poor thing. After a change of PJ bottoms he then wanted to go back to sleep in my bed, which I let him do. And where he is now.

I still am not sure how he got past me and into my bed without me noticing. He must have already been in my room and about to get in the bed when I got up to look for him, and I just didn’t see him. And he was too sleepy to get my attention.
