Blessed
Posted by Dineen on August 12th, 2006 filed in Nate, Still DevelopingWe were so blessed to be surrounded by family and friends as Nate received the sacrament of baptism. Once again, we were lucky to have a priest who is also a family friend perform the ceremony — this time, it was Mike’s high school wrestling coach and mentor from Jesuit High School, Father Callery. The ceremony was at Jesuit, and we had a small reception afterwards at Mimi’s Cafe. Nani and PopPop and Uncle Dennis flew in from New York, and Aunt Katie flew in from Minneapolis, and Bill and Barb and Shelley even happened to have flown in from Pennsylvania, so it was quite an interstate gathering for such a small group.
We are particularly glad that Jason and Jill are now officially Nate’s Godparents. They have treated him as such from day one, and we look forward to them playing a strong role in his life. Poor Rhett was a little confused about going to church on Saturday — he told his parents “but it’s Saturday, we go to Disney World on Saturday! Church is on Sunday.” But despite the confusion, he and big brother Roman and our Alex were perfectly behaved, both during the ceremony and at lunch.
Nate looked so precious as the second child in the family to wear the Christening gown my mother made from her wedding dress. He also wore a crucifix sent by my Great Aunt Eva and re-blessed by Father Callery. Absolutely beautiful. His Future Jesuit Tiger bib at the reception was a hit as well. All in all, a wonderful, wonderful day.
