Wiggles!
Posted by Dineen on September 3rd, 2006 filed in Alex, Still DevelopingWe went to Walt Disney World yesterday for a special treat — a Wiggles concert at Disney/MGM Studios. We got up extra early and loaded the kiddos into the car in their pajamas for the trek. We told Alex the day before only that we were going for a surprise on Friday. Well, he was just all about the surprise! What’s my surprise, Mommy? You can tell me the surprise. Are we going to the surprise? We stopped for breakfast on our way out of Seven Oaks and Alex said with dismay “Bagel Bagel isn’t a surprise!” We assured him it was just a stop along the way. He got very excited when he saw us pass through the gate onto WDW property (”Mickey Mouse!”) and even more excited when he found out his buddies Roman and Rhett would be there.
With all of that build up, the Wiggles themselves were almost anticlimatic. After a long wait (made shorter by the fact that Roman and Rhett and their daddy had arrived at WDW almost an hour before we did, and had already secured the much-coveted tickets) the show started with the announcement that yellow Wiggle Greg was suffering from exhaustion and had been flown back to Australia to be seen by his own doctors. So the part of Wiggle Greg was played by some guy named Sam. The show was also pretty darn short — 25 minutes, by my watch. Which seemed pretty short for the hours of waiting involved. They didn’t seem to sing all that many songs. Most disappointing of all, Alex just wasn’t into it as I had hoped he would be. He had no interest in dancing and singing along, even though he enjoys their music generally and recognizes it when it comes on the satellite radio.
Alex also wasn’t that into the Playhouse Disney show, and got scared and had to leave the Muppets 3D show halfway through. But he looooooved it when he got to run around in the rain. And that was good enough for me.

Apparently, Greg’s fate has been widely discussed on the internet.
