One of those nights…
Posted by Dineen on October 6th, 2006 filed in Alex, Mommy Musings, NateIt is now 3:50 in the morning and I have been up with one awake kid or the other for the better part of an hour. First Nate woke up screaming and wouldn’t get back to sleep no matter what I did. He nursed for a while, but screamed everytime he stopped or I attempted to put him down. I finally acheived some sort of balance of him on my shoulder and calm long enough to get into the kitchen and get some Motrin into him in case it is a teeth issue. He has been having a lot of what seem to be teeth issues — those two front teeth seem to want to come out, but make him absolutely miserable for weeks in the process.
I finally got him asleep and myself back in bed, unable to sleep, when I hear Alex scream for me. His problem? “There are ants on my backpack, Mommy!” Now, to be fair, ants down here are painful biting fire ants and not the harmless little black ants I grew up playing with up North. And he has had some nasty ant bites before, so it is not crazy for him to have a healthy fear of them. But it took a good five minutes to convince him that there were no ants on his beloved Thomas backpack, and indeed, no ants in the house at all, before he would attempt to go back to sleep. Poor baby, having nightmares about ants!
So now, of course, I am even wider awake than I was before. I really can’t complain too hard. Most of the time, both kids sleep through the night from about 8:30 pm until 7 or 7:30 am. But still, nights like this are a doozey for me!
