I saw the sign
Posted by Dineen on December 15th, 2006 filed in Milestones, NateNate is a bit of a stinker on the whole communication thing. He can wave bye bye, he has done it on numerous occasions, but he is pretty stubborn about doing it on command. That said, I think he is starting to pick up some of the signs we use with him and mirror them back. The most regular one is “more” — he hasn’t quite figured out the hand placement, but he claps when he wants more at the same rate that I sign the actual sign for “more” to him. He has done the “milk” sign once or twice. And best of all, the other day as I was getting him ready for his bath he started to spontaneously rub his fists on his chest to do the bath sign.
In other communications news, Nate can say mama and dada (though his favorite day care provider, Dawn, insists he is saying “Dawn”) and something approximating dog. It’s never clear if he is intended to say those words, but at least he is forming the sounds.
All of this, of course, is predicated on the big if — if he wants to. Do not expect this boy to perform on command! He’s a stubborn one. Well, that’s not entirely true — the one request he regularly complies with is a request for kisses. You ask for kisses, and you get big, wet open mouthed baby kiss right on the smacker. Again, and again, and again. He seems to have a limitless supply!
