At one a.m., when Nate woke up crying, Mike and I sang Happy Birthday to him to soothe him back to sleep. All day long, whenever I have a moment to myself I have been thinking to “at this time last year I was…(fill in labor blow-by-blow here)! Right around the time of his actual arrival (8:17 pm) we had cupcakes and sang Happy Birthday for something like the sixth or seventh time today (Alex helped frost the cupcakes and blow out the candle). He opened two birthday presents — a toy cell phone (or, to be more precise, a toy camera phone) that came all the way from the UK from my former roommate Dale and her family, and a wonderful, personalized, Aunt Keri original hooded towel.
At one year old, Nate is one of the happiest, sweetest babies I have ever met. As cliche as it sounds, everybody loves Nate — at the Day Care, they barely put him down! He isn’t quite walking (though he has taken a few tentative unassisted steps!) but he is climbing with gusto and is all about his idolized big brother. He has a ready smile and is generous with the kisses.
I don’t think I could ask for anything more.

I still can’t believe he is already a year old. I remember waiting to hear how it all turned out too.
He sounds like a such a sweetheart! Those big brothers (Gabe too) are so lucky to have so much adoration from their siblings. Wish Gabe would realize that!
