Socks on Al-ox
Posted by Dineen on February 13th, 2007 filed in Alex, From the Mouths of Babes, Literary AllusionsTonight Alex asked to wear blue socks to bed so that he could match the Fox in Fox in Socks. We put them on, and then he did a little dance wherein the book was on his head and he pretended to be standing in a box and thus we had Fox in Socks and Knox in socks all on Al-Ox in socks in a box. Maybe you had to be there, but it was both hysterical and touching to see all of those little synapses firing to come up with a way to change the story around so that Alex could be in it.
At one point when we were reading the story, he insisted on turning back to the front cover — where it says, as he well knows “Read slowly! This book is dangerous!” — and “read” it to me as saying “This book is dangerous so try to read it very fast!” What a goof. But I am pretty quick at rattlling off the bit about the noodle-eating poodle hosting a beatle battle in a puddle on its back, if I do say so myself…
