Man of the House

Tonight Mike had to attend a late-night meeting for work, so I had the boys to myself for dinner and bed time. Before he left for work this morning, Mike took Alex aside and explained to him that Daddy had to work late and that he had to be the man of the house while Daddy was gone and be a good helper to Mommy tonight. Since I was home with Nate to ensure he had a barf-free day, I went to pick Alex up from school early, and on foot, and on the walk home asked Alex if he rembered what Daddy had told him before school. He proudly exclaimed “I am the man of the house today! I have to be a big helper!” And he was a helper, too — listened very well during play time and dinner and bath time. Every time there was the slightest noise from outside, he would ask, “is Daddy home yet?” And I would explain that no, Daddy wouldn’t be home until after he was sleeping.
