The Big Bonk
Posted by Dineen on May 3rd, 2007 filed in NateNate bonked his head at day care today. Tripped over a picnic table and hit his head hard enough that he also bit his lip but good. Normally not really a big deal — if I had a nickel for every boo boo report Nate gets in a month, I could myself a little something. But then at dinner, he wouldn’t eat the aforesaid dinner. With every bite of food offered, he just whined and shoved my hand away. I don’t normally offer an alternative to dinner, but for some reason tonight I did. Still, the cheese stick was rejected, as was the cereal. Finally, it dawned on me that maybe he wasn’t feeling so well, so I decided to give him some Motrin. He fought me on that too, which is also unusual for him. As I turned to put the syringe away, Nate went exorcist on me — turned red and spewed all over the place.
Head bonk alone — no biggie. Spewing alone — he’ll live. The two together, however, made me call the pediatrician. When she called back (her own toddler shrieking in the background) she said it was 90% likely that he was just fine, but she would feel better if someone did a physical exam. So off we went to the after hours pediatrician’s office. The good news is, his eyes, ears and throat are all clear, and his eyes looked great, so no additional signs of trauma. I am sure he’s fine — heck, I was sure before we went to the pediatrician — but I am also sure I would feel a lot better if he hadn’t barfed on the heels of a bonk.
