Four Years, four people, four cupcakes…

Alex woke up this morning was saying “I am four years old now. I am four years old now!” before he even knew there was anyone around to hear him. Then he came into our bedroom and proclaimed “Mommy! I am a big four year old!” We had lots of extra special hugs and snuggles as we discussed what a big boy he is.

In the car on the way to school, Alex instructed me that I had to come into his class and tell everyone about his birthday. Usually, you see, I just poke my head in as he goes in and wave goodbye, maybe blow a kiss. But today, I was told, “Mommy, you have to come in and tell my friends it’s Alex’s birthday today!” I went in, but I didn’t have to say a word — one of his little friends immediately said “it’s Alex’s birthday today!”

And the fun continued when we got home. After the dinner of Alex’s choosing (macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, and applesauce), Alex opened presents (thanks Aunt Katie! thanks Hampes!), blew out the candles on this cake, and ate up the cupcakes (or in Nate’s case, smooshed up the cupcake). Then we went outside to look for “one more surprise.” We had to search for it — indeed, when he looked in the bushes he found a ball and that that was the surprise at first — but when we finally came back around to the driveway, there was a shiny new red bicycle. Oh the joy! Alex ran to tje bike and immediately climbed on. I didn’t think it was possible, but he was even more excited with the second reveal — a helmet with a farm scene on it. Woo hoo! We did two laps around the circle and Alex proudly showed off his new bike to Canon’s mom and to his friend Evan.

A good birthday all around. Happy birthday, little man.
Make a wish! Thanks Hampes! Thanks, Aunt Katie! A bike! A bike! Cool Rider Posed
