Too Cool for Cute

Yesterday, in a rush of warm loving feelings, Mike said to me, so the boys would overhear as we were driving, “our boys are both soooo cute!” Alex was outraged that his father would dare call him cute. “I don’t like that word!” He announced. Holding back our giggles, we tried to pry out of Alex exactly what was so offensive about being called cute. Finally, exasperatedly, he replied: “I am not cute. I am cool!” Four going on fourteen, and too cool for cute.
