Harry Potter
Posted by Dineen on July 26th, 2007 filed in Alex, From the Mouths of Babes, Literary Allusions, Mommy Musings, Picture PerfectIn anticipation of the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I have been listening to the first several books on tape (courtesy of my Dad and my long commute). I have made a very conscious choice not to listen while the kids are in the car, since as much as I adore the stories, Alex is sooo sensitive to any talk of monsters and magic that he just isn’t ready for the intensity of them just yet. He has, however, taken notice of the boxes in the car, and heard a second or two here or there when I forget to turn off the tape player before starting the car. It unfortunately has been just enough of a tease to get Alex very interested in Harry Potter. Today, he said to me as we were getting out of the car “Mommy, I want to read Harry Potter.” I just keep telling him that I am looking forward to the day when we can read the stories together, when he is just a little bit older. So instead, I offered to get him a book he could read himself (I had the BOB books in mind). Alex replied “do they have Harry Potter in them?” No, sorry dear. But they will still be cool.
In the meantime, I finished Deathly Hallows in one day, courtesy of my dear husband’s good humor in (a) agreeing to make our first date in years end up in line for a copy of the book on release date even though he is not at all into Harry Potter, and (b) pulling extra kid duty while I read on Saturday. Loved it! And loved being able to say we were there at midnight on the night it was released.
