Stop and Savor the Lovin’

On Tuesday, I had to leave before the kids woke up to catch a flight to West Palm for a court hearing. On Wednesday, Mike had a 7pm court hearing in New Port Richie, which meant the kids were in bed before he came home from work. Tonight Mike had to attend another work function, and got home around 8:30, just as Alex was about to brush his teeth, and Nate was already in bed (though not happy about it). When Nate heard Alex yell “Daddy!” and run to the door, he started to WAIL and scream Dada! Dada! Dada! So we broke with routine and Mike went in to Nate’s room, took him out of his crib, and gave him hugs and kisses goodnight. When he tried to put him down again, he wailed again (which is not like him at all — usually he is a place in the crib, say night night, roll over and go straight to sleep kinda kiddo).
So we took him back out of his crib and had a good family cuddle. All four of us, on the bed in Nate’s room, loving on each other. Alex repeated with enough conviction to make anyone’s heart melt “I love you sooooo much, baby Nate!” and we all shared a bunch of hugs and kisses and snuggles. Mike and I were so glad we took the post-bedtime time to just BE with them. They are so little, and it goes so fast.
Ten minutes later, we put Nate in his crib, and he went straight to sleep. Alex followed within five minutes of that. And Mike and I are still glowing.
