As a treat to the boys (and Daddy too!) Mike took the boys to a high school wrestling tournament today, to cheer on Daddy’s former team, the Jesuit Tigers. The idea was to watch the action, and perhaps even get a little mat time, too. The boys had a blast. In fact, Alex demonstrated that he actually learned quite a bit in the watching — when he and Daddy took to the mat during a break in the action, Alex surprised the heck out of Daddy by trying some of the moves he had observed in earlier matches. He explained “I watched what they did Daddy.” You can’t miss the pride in Daddy’s voice on the telling of this story — that he actually learned so much just by watching. His other brilliant observation had to do with the hairiness of the high school boys — he can now correctly use the word “hirsute” in a sentence.

Nate also was a good wrestler, though he came home with a huge knot on his forehead — not from the wrestling, but from walking into a wall while eating a hot dog afterward. Figures.

The boys charmed the Tiger-cheering parents around them, by, among other things, deciding to put on the perfect picture of brotherly love by hugging and kissing on each other when the doting Moms in the crowd doted on them, and accepting proffered goldfish and other snacks with grace and appropriate social niceties.
