Drenched

Tonight we had the bright idea to walk to a nearby restaurant and eat dinner outside. It was 72 degrees and just beautiful out, and Alex was enjoying riding his scooter, so why not, right? I strapped Nate to my back, Alex climbed on his scooter, and off we went, for what is a less than half a mile walk/scooter ride. Well, halfway there we noticed rain clouds. When we arrived, there was no seating left outside, so we ate inside. And watched as the clouds made the sky darker, and darker. We decided to hurry up and go for it as the first fat drops began to hit the pavement. It wasn’t so bad at first, and we managed to cut across parking lots to cut some distance. But about 200 feet from home, the sky opened up, and the lightening lit up the sky. Nate, on my back, kept shouting Run, Mommy, Run! Alex was a good listener to his Daddy and and raced home OK, but was a little shaken once he realize he was soaking wet and mommy wasn’t there (Mommy had veered off to the back door for shelter, figuring she would get in once Daddy came into the house. Daddy, thoughtfully, had grabbed an umbrella and come around looking for me….). The kiddos went straight into the tub and quickly recovered from the silly trauma of being wet. Mommy and Daddy grabbed towels and sweats. And all was good again.

But seriously, I have to get used to the fact that I live in Florida now, and these kinds of thunderstorms are a way of life!
