Variations on a Theme

Posted by Dineen on May 11th, 2008 filed in Alex, From the Mouths of Babes

In the car on the way to our Mother’s Day celebration at Grandma and Grandpa’s house today, we were listening to the rockin’ Tequilla Mockingbirds’ Live at Thirteen album and Alex started talking about cousin Pete. So Mike decided to tell Alex a joke:

Mike: Pete and Re-Pete are on a boat. Pete falls off. Who’s left?
Alex: Re-Pete!
Mike: Pete and Re-Pete are on a boat. Pete falls off. Who’s left?
Alex: Re-Pete!
Mike: Pete and Re-Pete are on a boat. Pete falls off. Who’s left?
Alex: Re-Pete!

Once Alex got it, he thought it was quite funny, and decided to tell his own versions. Maybe you had to be there, but he had Mike and I just cracking up!

Variation #1:
Alex: Pete and Re-Pete are on a boat. Re-Pete falls off. Who’s left?
Parents in unison: Pete?
Alex: YES!!!

Variation #2:
Alex: Pete and Re-Pete are on a boat. Rewind falls off. Who’s left?
Mike: Pete?
Alex: No, Re-Pete!

Variation #3 (my personal favorite):
Alex: Pete and Re-Pete are on a boat. Mommy falls off. Who’s left?
Dineen: Pete?
Alex: Mommy, you aren’t allowed to answer, you’re under water!
