Trike Expert
Posted by Dineen on May 21st, 2008 filed in Family Fun, Milestones, Nate, Picture PerfectToday was picnic dinner in the park night (i.e., Mommy is too tired to make anything other than sandwiches and the dishes from last night are still on the table because of a dishwasher snafu). Alex decided he wanted to ride his bike instead of his scooter tonight, so he strapped on his helmet and was off. Nate also insisted “I want my bike!” and grabbed the radio flyer tricycle. Now I need to point out that I never, ever had any luck with Alex riding this trike. He rode it maybe twice, I don’t think ever completed a full circle around the park. He was either not interested, or not coordinated enough, or some combination of both. It has a parent bar for pushing, and using that handle was the only way to get Alex moving on this thing. So my expectations were pretty low that Nate would get past the driveway without a push for me.
But Nate blew me away! He hopped on, and with a little help getting across the street, just took off without me. He was practically keeping up with his brother going around the circle, again and again. And he was so proud of himself — every neighbor he passed, he declared “I ride bike!”

You’re right about that! He rode all the way to the store tonight for dinner without a parent getting anywhere near that push bar. Go Nate!
