ABCD!

Nate has suddenly fallen in love hard with the alphabet. He is thrilled whenever he spots letters out and about — on signs, on walls, really anywhere. He sees them and shouts with great excitement “Look! ABCD!” or “Look! Letters!” He loves singing the Alphabet Song, and does so with gusto at every opportunity (though he kinda gets a little jumbled around Q, at which point he often skips to “Now I know my…”). He gets mad if his brother tries to sing with him, because he wants to badly to do it himself. He shouts “No, Nate do it!”

But today, he totally surprised me. I knew he knew a few letters — he’s pointed out Os to me on several occasions — but I didn’t realize the extent of his knowledge. After swim class, I had him on the changing table at the clubhouse and he got excited to see “letters!” on the wall (it was the warning labels on the table). He proceeded to point out the A, Bs, and Y in “Baby,” and then I started asking about other letters. Nate, where’s the W? (He points, correctly). Nate, do you see an L? “Dere!” (Natespeak for “there”). T? E? S? K? He got them all!
