Dental Hygiene

We're trying to instill good habits early. Soon after those first teeth arrived, we broke out the toothbrush and started brushing Alex's teeth after his bath every night. Well, I put the toothpaste on and do a quick once over. Then Alex insists on taking over himself! He also helps out by brushing Mommy's teeth, too. His favorite part is at the end when you get to spit. He cracks up when Mommy or Daddy make a spitting noise into the sink. He slurps a sip of water out of Mommy's hand, then *pthew!* (although he usually swallows the water first...we're still working on that one). There's video of this process here.

Crib

For the first time ever (other than one fluke at four months) Alex spent the entire night in his room and in his own crib. He woke up, but instead of bringing him to bed I put him back to sleep and put him back in his crib. I must admit, it was a little weird to wake up in bed without that smiling face next to me. But it was also more restful than having him keep me up with his flailing from 4 am til 7am, which had become the norm lately. So this is a trend I am hoping to continue. Family cuddle time will just have to commence AFTER 7 am, and frankly, I am just fine with that!

A place at the table

This morning when I left the day care, all four boys were sitting nicely at Claudia's dining room table, eating Cheerios, drinking milk, and generally enjoying their morning conversation. Who needs a high chair?? Not these big boys!

Experiencing Technical Difficulties, Please Stand By

No, we haven't entirely blown off this website now that Alex is one. It's just that my computer and my camera no longer wish to communicate with each other, and so many entries are being held up by lack of visual support. We are hoping to work out the issues soon.

But never fear -- Wednesday pix are still being taken, and updates on our Fourth of July, Alex's toothbrushing endeavors, and much, much more are all coming soon.

Rough and Tumble

Maybe I am buying into stereotypes, but Alex really is all boy. He continually collects an assortment of scratches and scrapes and bumps, not because he is unsteady, but because he takes on much more, physically, then most kids his age. When we picked him up from day care today, his hair was dripping from sweat from running up and down the grassy hills near the apartment. At some point he managed to scrape up his shins (Climbing stairs? Falling on the walkway? Who knows?) but no one even noticed it until later because he doesn't make a peep when he falls. Just brushes it off an goes back to running. And did I mention he has started RUNNING?

Camp Wasylik

Grandma and Grandpa worked very hard to make sure Alex was never bored on our visit to their house in Tampa.

Grandpa hauled in a bunch of fresh sand to the beach for Alex's enjoyment, and boy did he enjoy it! He also enjoyed posing on his little chair. And swimming in the pool (well, mostly playing on the steps, but still!). And just plain toddling around their house. I'm not sure I would say he enjoyed riding on the boat -- he actually mostly just slept through it! But most importantly, he enjoyed all the extra hugs from Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Katie. A good time was had by all.

Fireworks!

Alex was too little to really be cognizant of his first exposure to Independence Day fireworks, but this year he was really into it. With every burst, he would reach his hands up into the air and squeal with delight. He also got his first taste of ice cream, and it was a big hit! He also had a great time playing with the orange inflatable noodles that had been given out as neck rests to facilitate firework viewing. For the little ones, they were put to the alternate purpose of bopping.

Little Friends

On our Tampa trip, we also visited with some friends who have little ones of their own. I never tire of seeing Alex interact with other kids! He held his own with the older boys, Roman and Jake (both 2) and also was gentle with baby Rhett (9 mos). His favorite was the tunnel. And the trains. And chasing the older boys.
